History of our LSI Unsquashable™ Padding Collection:
Our Unsquashable™ carpet and rug cushion products were first developed in 1984 after years of research and innovation. Using proprietary chemistry and advanced manufacturing technology, LSI created an exceptionally high-density urethane cushion engineered for both residential and commercial applications.
Two key performance indicators define the quality of a urethane cushion: density and Compression Force Deflection (CFD), a measurement of foam firmness. CFD offers a true picture of how a cushion will perform over time. The higher the support factor, the greater the resistance to bottoming out, the stronger the shock absorption, and the better the acoustical properties.
According to industry research, higher density means longer-lasting performance. LSI urethane cushions deliver a density of 16 pounds per cubic foot—five to ten times greater than conventional prime urethane cushions. With support factors ranging from seven to forty, compared to just two in traditional products, our cushions outperform by a margin of three to twenty times. This is why we call them Unsquashable™: they simply will not lose their resiliency.
Our Residential Hi-Density Urethane Pad, Ultra Plus II, is produced with a woven polypropylene fabric backing, eliminating the hot iron seaming issues common in other cushions. Ultra Plus II, offers dual comfort options: the woven side face up for contract applications, or reversed to provide a slightly softer feel in residential spaces such as bedrooms and living rooms.
Additionally, our LSI 101 and LSI 300 Commercial Hospitality Pad models are designed for double-sided installation using removable or permanent adhesives. Both the carpet and the cushion can be removed independently without leaving residue, saving time and cost during renovations. Their exceptional tensile strength and tear resistance make installation and removal more efficient, addressing one of the flooring industry’s long-standing challenges.
